Today I find myself obsessed with this murder case.
File under, when bad things happen to pretty white girls.
Here's a dramatic summary from this blog:
This American girl, Amanda Knox, who liked to be called "Foxy Knoxy",decided to do her Junior Year Abroad in Italy. She ended up living in a dorm room with a British girl, Meredith Kercher.
The two girls became best friends and started hanging out at the local expat bars.
But, it turns out that Knox was pretty fucking kinky for a 20 year old girl. Her MySpace page, since taken down, was filled with tons of essays about how she wanted to rape girls because "girls don't know they wantit until you give it to them."
So, Knox ends up dating one of the guys who own/runs (some papers say he owns it, some say he runs it) the local expat bar.
One night she and him decide that they are going to get a couple other guys to rape her roommate - in order to prove that women want to be forced into sex.
Remember, we are talking about two young girls here, one aged 20, one 21.
So, they all go back and first lesbian rape Meredith and then the guys gang bang her.
When Meredith starts freaking out they murder her, because they are shocked she isn't overjoyed at what they did to her.
Then, they go someplace else and watch Grey's Anatomy.
Like how do you get that fucked up?
The victim and the mastermind are both Lifetime movie hot, while the boyfriend looks like a stereotypical Italian douche.
And despite all the serious, disturbing shit that went down during this murder, when I saw the boyfriend picture all I could think was, "Raffaele Sollecito is one of the most popular boys in Hufflepuff, but we don't know why he spent so much time with that Slytherin girl."
So what happened with the murder? I think this is a classic example of what happens when a weak-willed man is given "permission" to do something evil by a dominant female personality. I think Amanda Knox had some pretty involved rape fantasies and created a context where her boyfriend (and perhaps even these other people) started to think this stuff was okay.
But when Meredith didn't go along with this "rape is fun" scenario, Amanda's boyfriend panicked and stabbed her. Early accounts are frequently wrong in these cases, but I'm fascinated by the psychology of this case, and I would love to have been a fly on the wall while Amanda hatched her plan.
Her behavior after the arrest has been classic, a classic example of what happens when immature people are forced to confront the consequences of their bullshit.
I'm sure this all sounded quite convincing during the pot-fueled dorm room planning session. I just wish they'd kept it in the realm of fantasy, where it belonged.
I was going to pontificate about Machiavellian personalities and the reality distortion field generated by hot, smart girls, but the truth is, most men are so repressed and gullible when it comes to sex, the bar for both these qualities can be set pretty low.
